Where I live, it's a similar situation - most towns have it, a few don't, and if you ever have reason to go from one to the other, it can feel like you're stranded on a bike. After having a few close calls, I switched up my strategy. Now, I ride my <a href="http://www.montaguebikes.com" title="Montague Folding Bikes" rel="nofollow">folding bicycle</a>, when making these trips, and when I reach an area I don't feel comfortable riding, I just ride to the nearest bus stop and continue in that way until I get to my destination or safe riding.
