Whether you ride on the road, in the dirt, or both, advocacy groups such as the three mentioned do a lot of work to ensure that we have access and opportunities, and that our rights are recognized. So give them some support, contribute, participate, be involved.

CORBA Fat Tire Festival 2010...
Today's CORBA Fat Tire Festival was a great time as usual in support of a cause crucial to anyone who rides where the pavement ends. It was especially heartening to see multiple advocacy groups in attendance. Besides CORBA (Concerned Off Road Bicyclists Association), the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA), and Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition were both there. Additionally, the Southern California High School Bike League was there, and clearly getting and keeping that age group interested in cycling is a good cause. The bbq lunch was killer, though I would have liked more beans. The skills area was popular as always, and the various activities, ranging from the poker ride, with beginner, intermediate and advanced loops, to a hill-climb competition, and the crowd favorite bike limbo. The typical CORBA raffle ended the day. We unfortunately arrived too late to enter the cyclocross race, but my son and I rode a few laps after the fact, and had a great time just doing that - riding through the mud, the puddles, the sprinklers, even crashing in a tight corner brought out a big laugh; best of all it convinced him that cx is great fun and now he is looking forward to the next SoCal Prestige Series race we can get to.
