A brief blurb in the Los Angeles Times (yes, the Times actually wrote about local events once upon a time) notes, that years race (pros) at Manhattan Beach would be raced for $5,000 cash and prizes, and that riders the likes of Davis Phinney and Jeff Pierce would be competing. Twenty-one years later, and the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix still draws top racers from around the country.
