SoCalCross, Season 2011-2012...

Just in case you missed it, were outside the area, or otherwise unaware, Dorothy released the seventeen week schedule for the upcoming cyclocross season in Southern California this morning. There are two more UCI weekends again this year, the first in Irvine, and a return to the Greek Theatre in Griffith Park, for the second. I see some other familiar venues as well. Bummer no Bonelli Park race this time, it was nice having one close enough to ride to. But you can't please all the people, all the time, and there will be plenty of other good racing to fill in. You can check the schedule here.

  1. Any suggestions on building an inexpensive cross bike ? I m intrested in trying a season and see how it goes.

  2. I was going to try that last year with a single-speed road frame that I have, but decided that after everything it would have required to get it to be cross-ready, I would be better off saving for a complete new or used one. A couple ideas though: 1. try to go to some of the early races, some guys will have bought new bikes for the new season, and may be looking to get rid of their old ones, 2. sometimes there are swaps at the races, and I have seen some pretty good deals on frames and components, 3. Dorothy and her organization keep a stable of rentals and bring them out to each race, $10.00 per rental. I don't know if you can reserve them ahead of time, or if it is first come, first served, but its not a bad way to go, and you can try different ones in a race situation.
