All right all you bike riding Claremontonians, Pomonans, Uplandites, and others from the Inland cities, lets all hop on the Metrolink and fill up those new bike cars this Sunday, take the train to downtown Los Angeles for the third installment of cicLAvia. The new North Spur added to the ride route this time starts at El Pueblo and Olvera Street, directly across from Union Station, making it even easier to arrive by rail from the outlying areas. You can even explore the El Pueblo region by foot, secure in the knowledge that your bike is being cared for at the free bike valet parking there.
A quick look at the schedule, it seems trains leave the Depot every 90 minutes, and since the ride takes place from 10:00 to 3:00, you will want to hop on that 9:02 train (from the Claremont Depot), which pulls into Union Station at 10:05, at the latest. Link to Metrolink website. This will be my third time to ride cicLAvia, and though you can easily ride the whole route quickly, there is so much to see and do, that you will probably want those entire five hours to soak in the experience - the architecture, the landscape, the food, the sheer volume of characters, heck sling an anti-greed sign on your back and join Occupy Wall Street / Occupy LA at city hall.
Occupy Bikes : Occupy LA™
Or just ride for the fun of it.
Michael, I plan to experience CicLAvia for the first time. Does my bike go in a separate train car?
ReplyDeleteAccording to Metrolink, any of their cars can accommodate 2 to 3 bikes. In addition their new bike cars can carry 18 bikes or more. They are supposed to be running this weekend and can be identified by yellow "bike car" signage. The regular cars should have a bike symbol identifying which door to enter. It should be fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info Michael :)
