The Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. I believe they claimed it was the second oldest continuously-held race in the nation. I know Nevada City is older by a year, and the Tour of Somerville is some seventy years old. Anyway, It is prestigious enough to continue to draw in from the professional ranks. A wicked and fast 180º turn before the finish straight frequently causes trouble - the best place to be is at the front. Not sure what category (guessing Cat. 3) is finishing in the above photo, but I snapped it because there were two Chevrolet-LA Sheriff riders in the top three; they clearly knew where to be going into the final turn. Nice crowd of spectators too. Not a real high quality image to begin with, but click on it - it gets a little better.
