At today's Bicycle Pit Stop, the city's Bike to Work Day event, there was of course talk of the upcoming Stage 7 of the Tour of California. Many of the streets in the Village will be closed most or, or all of, the day. If you are a local, or live anywhere nearby and within riding distance, I would not even consider driving into the start / festival area. It will be a mad house. In addition to the many new bike racks around town, there will be all day, secure, and continually manned bike corral located at city hall (2nd and Yale). Diagonally across from this is the post office, and that is where the jumbotron will be located. You can watch the race as the drama unfolds at that location, skipping out every so often to partake of the festival / expo and visit the local businesses. Live music will be down by the depot at 1st and Yale.
Now from the city's Chamber of Commerce:
8:30 - 11:30 Claremont Kiwanis Club hosts a Pancake Breakfast at City Hall ($5.00)
10:00 Festival begins
10:30 Team Arrival
10:45 Rider Sign-in
11:45 Stage starts, at the Depot
12:00 - 2:00 Live Music by The Ravelers (Classic Rock)
2:00 - 4:00 Race coverage on the Jumbotron (coverage of previous stages will be showing earlier)
It will be as full a day as you want to make it.
Thanks for the info!
